    I have a garage attached to my house, with about 50×50 of flat blacktop in front leading to the street – would I be able to build a garage extension over the blacktop or would I need to lay concrete etc first?

    For a garage extension you would definitely need to dig up the blacktop and lay concrete. For starters the blacktop will not be strong enough to support the structure. Pretty sure that’s part of building codes too.
