If your problem is a need for a little extra living space, remodeling your attic might be just the solution.

The architectural style of your home will determine the amount of space your attic makes available. A house with a 20 foot ceiling will probably have a vaulted ceiling that follows the roofline in that part of the house. This might mean you have a smaller space to work with.

On the other hand, you might have an attic above your entire first or second floor that also offers enough headroom to use almost all of the space. Remodeling an attic will cost less than an addition because the roof, exterior walls and foundation are already in place.

An attic can often be made into one or two rooms (possibly more), with a storage area, as well. Those rooms can be used in almost any way you can imagine.
