living space. The advantage of using this space is that you can save money and effort. The garage already has a foundation, exterior and roof. Electrical wiring and plumbing might already be in place, making your remodeling job a whole lot easier. With these aspects ready you can remodel the space with less hassle to other areas of your home.

Rebuilding your garage into a room is not so troublesome. However, depending on where it is located, you might need to have a building permit. Why do you need a building permit? Heating and cooling, windows, structural soundness, ventilation, plumbing and electrical wiring, exits, and insulation are some the reasons why you need to have a permit for remodeling your garage.

Remodeling always requires planning. You need to think about what si required, such as walls, flooring, access, and windows. Most likely your floor is already cemented and you already have a good roof. If there is no window, you might want to consider putting one. Think about its installation, including how many windows you want to put and where to put them. If the walls of your garage are finished, you need to know if they are insulated or not. If there is no insulation you should include it in your plan. You will have to add budget for cooling, heating, electric outlets, and lighting.
Moreover, you might want to decide whether you want to convert the entire garage into a living space or just a part of it. If you have a 2 car garage, using half of it might be ideal. Additional soundproofing can be your additional concern.

The great thing about using the garage is that it can be converted into almost any kind of room. It can be a kitchen, bedroom, den, home theater, office, or family room.  You can expand your creative with the huge space the garage has to offer.

When you have finalized your decision, you can then decide on what your room will look like.  If you want to change the flooring, you can go for slabs since they can be installed easily. Make sure that slabs are properly sealed before any flooring materials are installed. If you want a carpet installed, you can consider double padding it to add more comfort. After the flooring, decide on the kind of ceiling you want. Depending on how you want to use the space, you can choose between pitched ceiling, drywall and drop ceiling, or exposed beam ceiling.

Finally, decide on the walls. You can either use sheet rock or paneling, or you might want to use insulated boards. If the room is intended as an office or playroom, these options could suit you best. Whether you hire a contractor or not, your word and your decision is what matters most. With the right choices you can surely convert your garage into a wonderful and useful room.
