Remodeling Savings Tip #405: Stick with Cosmetic Changes
If you’re looking to provide a fresh look in your remodeling project or wish to ready your home for sale, you might want to focus on doing only cosmetic finishes to your house rather than doing a major project, such as an addition. There are several inexpensive cosmetic changes that can markedly change the way your house looks. Let’s look at some of these:
- Repaint with lighter or brighter colors
- Change out your light fixtures
- Remove or put in new wallpaper
- Put in new window treatments
- Put in water saving toilets
- Take out paneling and put in drywall
- Change regular ceilings to tray ceilings
- Replace bathroom or kitchen counter tops with something elegant like stone or butcher block
- Put in ceramic tile instead of vinyl flooring
- Put in hardwood floors instead of carpeting
- Change the windows
- Put in new exterior doors
- Upgrade blinds or shades
- Make windows bigger
- Change the carpeting
