Many older houses have wonderful wide wood window sills. Even if you replace your windows, you still have the deep sills. Over time, the sills may have become damaged or scarred. You may be tired of painting them frequently to keep them looking good. The wide sills not only fit the architecture and style of the house, they are useful and attractive. You can overcome the damage and scarring, keep the sills, and avoid the frequent maintenance requirements by installing a vinyl sill cover. An experienced do-it-yourselfer can install these covers. They are available in various colors and textures. Once installed, they are maintenance free (unlike the aluminum covers which must be painted). So before you start paying someone for expensive repairs or consider tearing them out altogether, try smoothing damaged surfaces with wood filler and cover them with worry-free vinyl sill covers.
