Your contractor will have contacts and relationships with other contractors and subcontractors. If you are looking for materials that are expensive, ask your contractor or subcontractor if he or she has access to any leftover materials from other jobs. Through your contractor’s network of contacts, he or she might be able to help you find the materials you need at very low prices. Even if the scraps are not a perfect match, working with them may make them useable. For example, if you are renovating an older house and you want to have hardwood floors throughout, consider using different types of flooring materials in different rooms. For example, finding enough ash hardwood flooring for one room and enough parquet for another room, and darker plank hardwood flooring for halls is workable. A little sanding refinishing can make this collection of flooring materials work in a way that adds additional interest to the finished design.
