We all have networks of friends, neighbors and acquaintances. When you are looking for specific items for your remodel or addition, putting the word out through those networks might help you find what you need at little or no cost. Just let your networks know what you are looking for and that you are willing to pay a reasonable price for the items, and give the networks time to spread the word. If your immediate contacts don’t have what you need, they might know someone else who has those items and is willing to give or sell them to you. This might not help you locate triple-paned metal-clad windows, but it might help you find an accent piece or partial lots of materials.
