By scheduling your house addition or renovation during the slow period for contractors you can usually save between 4.5 and 5.5%, sometimes more. The slow time for most contractors is between New Year’s and the beginning of consistently warmer weather. When you schedule a remodeling project during the peak remodeling season, your contractor and the laborers will charge peak season fees. You may also have trouble finding the fixtures and other items you need. Delivery of materials will be slower because there is greater demand. By planning your project shortly after the New Year begins, your contractor and the labor crew will be looking for work and willing to work at a lower price. They also may be able to complete the project faster in colder weather. This is also the time of year when tools and remodeling equipment, as well as appliances are on sale. So, plan for savings by scheduling you project during the slow time.
