If your remodeling project includes tile work and you plan to tile a relatively small area, you might be able to save money by purchasing excess tile from another job. By checking with builders, contractors and tile or flooring stores, you can often find excess tile. This will be tile ordered by the store or the contractor for another job. There will be excess either because of miscalculation or because the store or contractor had to buy a set quantity of the tile to get a good price. If someone has excess tile, they will almost always be willing to sell it at a discount. If you can be flexible about the color, or if you choose a neutral color, your chances of finding excess tile are reasonably good. You will just need to spend some time on the telephone finding what you need. Using more than one color and creating a pattern in the tile work will also afford a better chance of finding enough excess tiles.
