You can save big bucks by buying plain ceramic tile and painting a design, border, or pattern on it yourself. Most ceramic tile can be painted, but you will need to use an oil-based or epoxy paint. Just clean the tile thoroughly and paint on your design, pictures, border or pattern. Don’t worry about not being an artist – geometric designs are easy, and stencils make it possible for even the least talented to paint pictures or designs on ceramic tile. After the paint has dried and "cured" for about 3 days, coat the tile with urethane to protect it. The urethane will dry to a nice hard, durable finish. Your tile can then be used almost anywhere in your home, even on floors and counters.
