You should always keep the receipts for everything you buy for a home addition or a remodel. There are several reasons for this. First, you will be able to return defective items more readily. Second, you will need those receipts to calculate your improvement investment in your home when you decide to sell your house. Third, keeping the receipts will enable you to return any unused materials when your project is complete. Many people purchase materials with a bit of skepticism. They buy a little extra of some materials in case they either miscalculated their needs or make a mistake. These unused extra materials can be returned when the project is complete. Although this doesn’t actually save money, it prevents overspending and wasting money. When you start shopping, designate a place to keep all receipts. They will be easy to file away for future needs, and you will know where to find them if and when you need them.
