Having a written contract with anyone who will do work at your home is important for several reasons:

  • A clear and detailed statement of the work to be done will avoid confusion and mistakes
  • A contract will specify costs, payment dates, and payment terms
  • A contract should specify liability limitations
  • A contract will define a period of time in which the work is to be done
  • A contract will state the materials and the quality of materials and finishing work to be done

A contract protects you and the contractor or sub-contractor by preventing costly misunderstandings. It will also prevent opportunities for conflict and modifications to which you have not given consent.
