You may be able to save some money on the cost of permits required by your municipality for your addition or remodeling work. Different cities and counties have different permitting and inspection requirements for remodeling and for home additions. For example, a city may require a permit for electrical work, a permit for plumbing, a permit for framing, a roofing permit, and a permit for installation of a heating or cooling system. The price for each permit will vary according to the location and the number of inspections required while the work is being done and when completed. You may find, by asking when you apply for the permits if there is a permit that covers several of your permitting needs. For example, is there a single permit for framing and roofing? Or there might be a single permit for a home addition. You won’t know until you ask, and asking could save you a couple hundred dollars.
