Many garages have several feet or more of space than the minimum requirement. If you are looking for a place to add an interior closet, a mud room, or a laundry room, you can save a bundle by taking some of the space in the garage and converting it to indoor living and storage space. Again, the advantage in this strategy is that the foundation and roof, as well as one or two walls are already in place. Your remodeling job will be as simple as adding a few walls, improving the flooring, and installing the appliances. The additional space in a garage can also be inexpensively converted to a storage closet with adjustable shelves, a strip for hanging tools or gardening implements, and the like. Sometimes finding economical ways to do remodeling tasks is just a matter of looking carefully at existing spaces and doing some quick mathematical calculations.
