While this option probably won’t save you any money on your remodel or house addition, it may make you a bundle when it comes time to sell your home. Having a cramped or unusable front or back yard can lower the market value of your house and result in a lower sale price. The sideways expansion will protect these valuable areas while providing the extra space you need. You will need to check with your local building codes office to be certain you don’t build too close to the property line or encroach on easements.
