HUD and DOE have also recommended using 2-stud corner framing and drywall clips or scrap lumber for drywall backing instead of studs. This framing technique is equally stable and allows you to save on the amount of lumber used in the framing, reduces waste, and saves money by reducing labor costs. Using scrap lumber for drywall backing saves on both the lumber and the labor cost of installing studs for drywall or paneling.
