Not only must you purchase each window you include in your design, but you must also plan for additional framing for each window. One often overlooked way to save cost in a remodel or addition is to reduce the number of windows included in the design. If you want more light than you think will be possible with the windows in your original design, consider using larger windows. It will cost less to install one large window than to install two or three smaller windows. The necessary framing for a window will not add significant cost because of the size of the window. Larger windows are popular today, and they provide more light in the room. The size of the window will not really affect the framing cost. Framing several windows will increase the cost. When you consider the insulation value of today’s double-paned and triple-paned windows, why not let the sunshine in?
