The best way to make storage spaces more efficient is to organize carefully.

First, eliminate or move to less accessible places any items you do not use regularly.

Then choose the items that will help you organize what is in those spaces for ease of location and convenience. Either install organizing dividers in drawers, cabinets and closets or buy items that will help you organize things. Look into lazy Susans to keep everything easily visible and reachable.

Divide or subdivide shelves in cabinets, install racks for canned goods or place cans in drawers. Use all space as wisely as possible. For example, don’t use a drawer that is 8 inches deep for flatware. You will probably be wasting at least 5 inches of the space. Choose a different drawer for flatware.

If you don’t want to build dividers and organizing devices into the shelves, use things like baskets or other containers to keep things organized and neat.
