Remodeling in stages is exactly what it sounds like. It is to take a major, complex, or multi-part remodel and breaking it into logical discrete parts. Each part, or stage, is then completed when there is time or money. For example, a decision to completely renovate a split level home might move and remove walls in stage one, restore hardwood floors in stage two, replace doors and windows in stage three, update and upgrade the bathrooms in stage four, enlarge and remodel the kitchen in stage five, add a new roof in stage six, and install a new hybrid solar/wind HVAC system in stage seven. The schedule might call for one stage per year or every three years.
