When planning a bathroom remodel of any scale, it is important to inspect for the following possible problems before your planning goes too far. Any of these problems could result in additional cost for repairs before the remodeling work can begin.

1. Look for any signs of leaks. Then inspect both the flooring and the subflooring for damage or mold.

2. Check electrical wiring for damage, and consider installing GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlets.

3. Check pipes for signs of corrosion or other damage. Also check connections for leaks and test water flow in each faucet or showerhead.

4. Check the ventilation system to ensure its is adequate and energy efficient.

5. Check for any signs of dampness or mold anywhere in the bathroom.

6. Check the insulation in any exterior walls around the shower and tub.
