Tip #158: Browse the classifieds

Many people sell items they no longer want or need through classified ads in the local newspapers. Most of these items are offered at very good prices, and these prices are often negotiable. Start early in the planning phase of your project, and browse the classifieds in your paper regularly. Remember that descriptions will be very brief because the price of the ads is based on the number of words or lines used. If something looks at all like it might fit your needs, it is worth a phone call to get additional details. As you consider items listed in the classified section, don't forget that most things can be reconditioned, refinished, or modified to meet your needs. Even a library table can become a coffee table by simply cutting of part of the legs. Use your imagination and be persistent in your search.
