Tip #220: Use metal studs for complex framing challenges

You can also save big on labor costs for the construction of archways and other framing challenges and the installation of skylights and other items by using metal studs for these complex framing jobs. Metal is faster and easier to cut, to shape, and to attach to the surrounding framing members than wood. Your contractor may be planning this, but if not, you might want to ask about it. If you are doing the work yourself, you will save a huge amount of time. There are a number of challenging framing tasks, such as arched windows, ceiling domes, skylights, and other rounded shapes. If your project includes any windows, doorways, skylights, etc. using metal studs for these framing challenges will save enough in labor costs to make a noticeable difference in your total project cost.
