Tip #327: Make your own storm windows

One of the earlier suggestions was to install storm windows instead of replacing your windows. You can save even more money by making your own storm windows. Building storm windows has been around for a long time. But the materials have improved tremendously. You can buy kits for interior-mounted storm windows. You can also start from scratch and build your own. All you need is a good tape measure, some 1 x 2 inch lumber, and plastic, acrylic or Plexiglas for the panes. Step-by-step instructions are readily available. This is a fairly easy project for the do-it-yourselfer, and it will save at the time of making the storm windows and over the long term by making your home more energy efficient.
