Should you walk if you have neuropathy in your feet?

It depends on the severity of your neuropathy. If you have mild neuropathy, short walks at a reasonable pace may be beneficial and help to increase strength and leg muscles. However, if you have severe neuropathy, it may be best to avoid walking as it can be uncomfortable and even painful.

Talk to your doctor to determine the best course of action for you specifically. In general, it is best to start slow with very short walks and gradually build up over time if your neuropathy is mild.

Additionally, careful attention must be paid to the types of shoes worn, as the right shoes can help reduce the risk of falling and provide much needed support to your feet. Make sure shoes provide adequate cushioning and arch support and avoid those with a stiff sole.

Finally, try an alternative form of exercise, such as swimming or cycling. These low-impact activities can help strengthen your muscles and bones without putting extra stress on your feet.
