Why can you not delete GroupMe messages?

GroupMe messages cannot be deleted because it is important for the users to maintain an accurate record of their conversations. Allowing users to delete messages would also open up the potential for abuse, as someone could delete something that someone else said in order to avoid being held accountable for it.

This could lead to unpleasant situations, so GroupMe has chosen to not enable message deletion. Additionally, deleting a message wouldn’t stop anyone from taking a screenshot of it beforehand and sharing it publicly, which means GroupMe believes it is better to have an accurate record of messages.

Does hiding a chat in GroupMe delete it?

No, hiding a chat in GroupMe does not delete it. Hiding a chat in GroupMe simply makes it so that it does not appear in your current list of open chats. You can still view the hidden chat by clicking on the “Show Hidden” button, which will reveal all of your chats that you have hidden.

You will also be able to see any new messages that are added to the hidden chat, as they will still appear in your notifications. In order to actually delete a chat from GroupMe, you must go into the chat and select the “Leave Conversation” or “Delete Conversation” option.

This will remove the chat from your view and the messages in the chat will be erased entirely.

What happens when you delete GroupMe?

Deleting your GroupMe account will remove all of your messages, photos, and group chats from the app. It will also remove your account from any groups you are currently a member of. This means other group members will no longer be able to see your messages, photos, or profile.

Your friends will also no longer be able to send you messages or add you to any other groups. All of your existing conversations, photos, and events will also be deleted. Finally, if you are the creator of a group it will be disbanded and all of its members will no longer be part of the group.

By deleting your account, you will effectively be leaving the GroupMe community.
